Lancaster Estate 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Lancaster Estate 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon: Wine Enthusiast, 92: November 2009 Buying Guide

A very fine Cabernet. Not quite in the league of the ’04 and ’05, but rich and complex, a wine to drink now and over the next few years. Shows sweet tannins and accessible flavors of wild blackberries, currants, herbs and smoky cedar.

Lancaster Estate 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 90

“ ..revealing deep ruby/purple color, a big intense, masculine mouthfeel and plenty of power and tannin. It needs time to round into and accessible wine, but shows good balance, structure and purity."

Lancaster Estate 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

The Wine Advocate - Robert Parker Jr. - 90 Point Rating, December 2008

"Slightly superior is the outstanding 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which offers up scents of fruitcake, soil undertones, forest floor, and copious quantities of black cherries and black currants as well as soft tannins in its dense, medium to full-bodied personality. It is ideal for drinking over the next decade."

Lancaster Estate "A shining star in the Alexander Valley." Lancaster Estate 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon - 94 Point Rating - The Tasting Panel Magazine

One of California's Top Cabernets - Lancaster Estate is an upcoming star that after over a decade of winemaking has made it's best Cabernet to date. Located in the Southern Hillsides of Sonoma County's highly regarded Alexander Valley, it is this location's unique volcanic soils, steep rolling hillsides that shape the backbone and character of the world-class Cabernet. Lancaster Estate 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon: Wine Enthusiast, #17 Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2008, December 2008

A massive wine that absolutely demands time in the cellar, Lancaster's '05 is nearly all Cabernet, with tiny amounts of the other four Bordeaux varities. It stuns with the power and authenticity of its hilly Cabernet origins, offering vast black currant, orange rind, anise and smoky oak flavors that implode on the palate. But the tannins are hard. It should blossom and fully come into its own after 2010. (Download PDF)

Lancaster Estate 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon: Connoisseur's Guide to California Wine, 91: Volume 32 Issue 10: August 2008

A bit brooding and closed at present, this substantial young wine delivers plenty of depth and fruit from the start. It slowly unfolds to show plenty of dense, curranty fruit aligned with lots of sweet, slightly vanillin oak, and its incisive varietal flavors stay the course even as ample tannins come into play.

Lancaster Estate 2005 Cuvée

Lancaster Estate 2005 Sophia's Hillside Cuvée: Wine Enthusiast, 90: October Buying Guide

It's fair to call this a junior version of Lancaster's more expensive, superb Bordeaux-style wines. Like them, it's rich in black currant and cedar flavors, and quite tannic, a wine that needs a few years to come around. It's also a touch more rustic. Three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon, one-quarter Merlot. (Download PDF)

Lancaster Estate 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon

Lancaster Estate 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon : 4 - Star Cabernet: Quarterly Review of Wine- By QRW Tasting Team Summer 2008

Deep, rich, well-concentrated, black fruit and dark chocolate flavors.

Lancaster Estate 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon : #2, Top 100 Wines: Wine Enthusiast- By Joe Czerwinski, December 31, 2007

Lancaster burst on the scene with enormous buzz, perhaps before they really earned it. Steadily but surely, they've built up the wine, and the '04 is the best ever. (Download PDF)

Lancaster Estate 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon : 97 Points : Wine Enthusiast- By Joe Czerwinski, December 1, 2007

Lancaster burst on the scene with enormous buzz, perhaps before they really earned it. Steadily but surely, they've built up the wine, and the '04 is the best ever. It's a gorgeous Cab, softly complex, rich in cassis, cherry, spice and oak flavors anchored with warm, earthy tannins. In fact, the earthiness stands it in good contrast to Napa Valley, making it wholesome and complete. (Download PDF)

Lancaster Estate 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon : 90 Points : Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - By Josh Reynolds, May 16, 2007

Deep ruby. Focused cherry and blackcurrant aromas lifted by a mineral element. The brisk palate features spicy dark berry flavors, silky tannins and a refreshingly bitter quality on the back. Nicely persistent and elegant in style, with the concentration to age.

Lancaster Estate 2002 Red Wine

Lancaster Estate 2002 Red Wine : 93+ Points : Vin Folio, The Wilder Side of California, Issue 8 - By Doug Wilder, June 17, 2006

This is the first vintage with David Ramey on board consulting with winemaker Jennifer Higgins. The wines have magically added complexity, mostly in the aromatics; a delicate perfume of jasmine and nectarine blossoms. The dynamic palate focuses this wine remarkably well showing black currant, boysenberry, and perfectly tender black fig. I expect the rating on this wine to possibly increase when tasted closer to release. Drink: 2007-2015.

Lancaster Estate 2002 Red Wine : Double Gold, Best of Class : San Francisco Chronicle, Wine Competition, January 1, 2006

Aromas of black cherries, lavender, and vanilla bean lead the way to layers of black fruit, lush textures, and a long polished finish. (Download PDF) (76k)

Lancaster Estate 2002 Red Wine : 90 Points : Wine Enthusiast, 2005 Buying Guide, December 15, 2005

There’s a classic Alexander Valley softness and herbaceousness to the cherry, cassis, blueberry and oak flavors of this Cab, and while it’s rich and balanced enough to drink with the best steak you can find, it should age for a while. Best now through 2009. (Download PDF)
