The 2013 Nicole’s Proprietary Red is a blend created from the best barrels of our estate’s finest vineyard blocks. The final composition consists of four of the Bordeaux varietals grown here: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Dark purple in color, the wine has striking aromas of ripe berry fruits that meld beautifully with violet-floral undertones. Concentrated flavors of black currant, dark cherry, blackberry pie and marzipan fill the lush palate. The long finish has a beautiful integration of French oak and luxurious tannins, leaving you begging for more. Nicole’s should be decanted when young, and will age 20+ years.

Ratings
89 - 91 Points - Robert Parker. Three barrel samples not yet in bottle include the 2013 Proprietary Red Nicole’s. This shows a good bit of graphite and toasty new oak, blackcurrants and blackberries, although not the supple, fleshy mid-palate of the Sophia’s. However there is a lot of extract and richness in this full-bodied, powerful wine. Give it several more years of cellaring and drink it over the following 15+ years.

Production Notes
The Alexander Valley experienced another ideal vintage in 2013. The length of the growing season provided moderate temperatures for the grapes to ripen at the optimal speed. The result is another stellar vintage defined by clean, outstanding fruit characteristics with balanced and bright acidity, tannins and sugar levels. We harvested the grapes between September 11 and October 22, 2013. Consistent with Lancaster Estate’s commitment to making wines of authenticity and place, all of our wines are estate grown, produced and bottled. Native yeasts are used for primary fermentation while secondary malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in barrel. To preserve the truest expression of our estate, the Lancaster Estate 2013 Nicole’s Proprietary Red was gently fined and then bottled unfiltered.
